- 30 June 1928: Miner Killed at Uddingston - While coming off his midnight shift early on Saturday morning, James Carlin (29), who resided at 130 Bothwellpark Rows, Uddingston, was in the act of stepping into the cage at the pit bottom of Viewpark Colliery, Uddingston, when the cage was suddenly started. He was caught by the crossbeam and shockingly crushed. On being extricated life was found to be extinct. [Scotsman 2 July 1928]
