20 August 1915: HURLFORD MINER KILLED. - Kilmarnock, Saturday Night. - A fatal accident occurred in No.7 Portland Pit, Hurlford, near Kilmarnock. Malcolm Campbell, miner, Portland Row, Hurlford, was struck on the head by a heavy stone falling from the roof, death being instantaneous. Deceased, who was 43 years of age, leaves a widow and large family. He has a son on active service, and another in the navy. [Sunday Post 22 August 1915]
