- 13 June 1929: Thomas Calder (60), pit joiner, residing at Fauldhouse, came by a serious misadventure while engaged at a circular saw at Braehead Colliery, Fauldhouse, owned by Barr & Thornton, coalmasters. Calder was guiding a log of wood; when it sprung back, striking him on the right side of the head. He sustained a fracture to his skull, and lost his right eye. After receiving medical attention locally, he was conveyed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. [Scotsman 12 June 1929]
