20 September 1916: Fatal Colliery Accident At Prestonpans - At Prestongrange colliery, Prestonpans (Mossend and Summerlee Iron Company), yesterday, a pithead worker, Peter Cairney, 13 years of age, was instantaneously killed through being crushed between the cage, as it was about to descend, and the floor of the pithead.
