- Details of Event
- Inspection made and inquest attended. The two deceased persons were descending the shaft in the cage which collided with the ascending cage owing to the fact that three bars of pitwood had been sent down in that cage to the bottom of shaft and had not been taken out at the mouthing of the Five Feet Seam which was a landing about sixty yards from pit bottom and was the only mouthing where coal was being raised from. The timber in the ascending cage caught the descending cage, and the deceased persons fell to the pit bottom and were killed. At the inquiry it was stated that the undermanager was aware that timber was in the other cage when they descended contrary to rule's. 2 killed.
