The winding engineman lost control of the engine while 12 men were being lowered, and the cage dashed violently on the sump boards and was again twice, suddenly raised and lowered. Three of the men were thrown out, and falling on the sump boards were fatally crushed by the cage on its second descent. All the other men were injured, four of them very seriously. 3 killed.
