He was coming out-bye behind a tub when the link of a socket broke and the spring of the rope broke. The accident occurred on the 14th Nov. and he died of blood poisoning in Sunderland Infirmary after having his leg amputated on 18th January 1905. The link was Low Moor iron 11/16th, and had a weld which was not visible before the breakage.
