Deceased was holing in the coal at the face, when a large stone fell from the roof and pinned him to the floor, inflicting injuries from which he died on 13th November. The stone parted from a slip close to and parallel with the coal face, and broke off at the edge of the roof bar next the face. Owing to the numerous breaks parallel to the face the use of bars at right angles to the coal face would have accorded greater protection.
