The face had fallen in more than a week before the accident occurred, and since that time he and his mate had been reducing the width of a gateroad and building a narrow pack with fallen stone. On the day in question a large stone fell without any warning from the cavity from which the first fall had come and caught and killed him on the spot. There was no weight on the place and the men appear to have used every care.
