- Details of Event
- He was casting some coal for his mate to fill into a tub when a piece of stone from the roof, measuring 10 feet 6 inches long by 3 feet 6 inches wide by 13 inches thick, suddenly fell upon and killed him. There were slips at both ends of the stone which could not be seen before it fell, a break over the coal face, and another parallel to it within the distance at which the timber was set, as well as smooth parting above the stone, and, therefore, as soon as the coal was taken from under the stone, fell without the slightest warning.
