- Details of Event
- He had greased one set of points in the colliery yard and was in the act of greasing another set when a light colliery locomotive came down the empty tram road and ran over and killed him. A driver and two shunters were upon the locomotive who said they were looking out and the whistle was also sounded but they never saw the deceased man. He cannot have kept a look out as there was nothing to prevent him seeing the locomotive for a considerable distance. An express train from the North Eastern Railway, which is close to, passed just before the accident and doubtless the attention of all was momentarily attracted by it.
