The men were waiting to ride up the pit and the top deck of the cage had been loaded and the onsetter had rapped for the bottom deck when someone raised a panic amongst the men waiting to ride, and those already in the cage, by shouting out that the set was amain. Buried in the churchyard of St. Mary the Virgin West RaintonWood tried to get out of the cage but as he did so it was lifted and he was caught between it and the shaft framing.
