18 May 1938: Kirkconnel Colliery Fatality - Charles Wood, aged 52 years, who resided at Kingsway, Kirkconnel, was fatally injured in an accident in No.1 Fauldhead Colliery yesterday. He was struck by a large stone which fell from the roof, and he sustained a fractured neck. Death was instantaneous. He is survived by his widow and ,a grown up family. [Scotsman 19 May 1938]
