Deceased was on a bricking scaffold with fourteen other men while it was being placed in position for starting a fresh length of work. Owing to the unequal lapping of the two carrying ropes on their respective drums, one side got about 24 inches higher than the other. In trying to right it, by working one drum and rope independently, the engineman tilted it enormously. All the men except deceased, saved themselves, but he fell down the shaft and was drowned.
