He and two other men were being lowered to the bottom of the shaft where there is a sump which was full of water and the cage, instead of being stopped at the proper level was dropped into the water and the men were wet through. Two got out at once but he, owing to his foot getting fast was sometime in the water. He walked home. Pneumonia set in from which he died three days after.
