- 9 July 1917: Motherwell - Colliery Fatality – Andrew Wilson , 22 years of age, son of John Wilson, 113 Windmillhill Street, met with his death on Monday afternoon in Wishaw Coal Coy's (“Doctor's”) Pit at Motherwell. Deceased had got in front of a rake of hutches and was run down, receiving terrible injuries from which he died almost instantaneously. Deceased had made all his arrangements to go off his holidays yesterday. [Hamilton Advertiser 14 July 1917]
