- Details of Event
- Died February 29. Deceased worked in a wide bord in the Main Coal seam, and as he was passing by the side of a tub that was standing near the face on returning after firing a shot in the coal a stone 6 feet by 4 feet and 6 inches thick, partly relieved by slips fell from the roof upon him canting out a prop as it fell. He sustained a cut on the head 1.5 inches long. He was attended by a doctor the same day and never worked again. Apparently he was little the worse but on the 12th February he had two attacks of angina pectoris; then bronchitis set in the day before he died. At the inquest medical evidence was given to the effect that he died from angina pectoris and bronchitis following upon shock to the system, the result of the injury received in the pit.
