- Details of Event
- This accident was due to neglecting to reset sprags to the coal while making a nicking, after an attempt to bar the coal down had failed. The bottom portion of the Double Coal had been worked under a distance of 4ft and face props and sprags had been set to the top coal. Deceased drew a sprag and tried to get a portion of tops down, without success. He then proceeded to cut into the tops to make a loose end. He cut through to a slip and the coal fell and knocked out a prop near him and a piece of roof from over the prop fell, striking him on the head and killing him instantly.
