He had just lengthened the signal wire and was standing near the hoppit at the bottom of a sinking pit watching the wire being lined up, when a clamp on the wire caught and lifted out one of the wooden segments of the bricking scaffold. This fell some 20 yards on to deceased who sustained such severe injuries that he died two days later. The segments would have been better bolted to the frame.
