- He was fatally injured by a piece of stone which fell from the back of a level on to a stull and then on to his bead. The stull was 12ft. below the back of the level, and he was 36ft. below the stull. It appeared to be very questionable whether the "back" of the level had been as carefully examined as it should have been, but, in any case, the hole in the stull through which the stone finally dropped ought to have been covered over.
