- Details of Event
- Deceased and two other men had finished their shift, and were travelling out along an engine plane, having a dip of 3ins. per yard towards the shaft, when the first tram of a journey of coal got free and ran over him. It was afterwards found that the shackle-pin had jumped up, and liberated the train. The pin cannot have been put fully through the shackle or it would not have risen. The rider said that he examined and found all the shackles were right before signalling to have the journey lowered. The road was of ample height and width, and there were manholes from 10 to 11 yards apart.
