Details of Event
Fall of coal, which he was wedging down from the face, fractured his thigh, as he was about to remove his shovel from where he had it standing up. He was discharged from the Cottage Hospital, Tredegar, on the 29th of January, 1909, but as the bones had not united an operation was advised and he was readmitted to the Hospital on the 18th February. The operation took about two hours, and at the finish it was noticed that he was in a state of collapse so he died the following day from shock following the operation.
