Details of Event
Fall of roof at face; the three were killed by it fall of top coal 21ft. long, 9ft. wide, and 2ft. 4ins. in thickness, extending from the face back along a narrow heading having coal on either side. A slant ran along the right side, and another at the coal face. Five props, fixed about 4ft 6ins. apart, in the centre of the roadway supported the top coal. In a roadway 9ft. wide props fixed in the centre would have a tendency to assist the breaking of the coal at the ribs. Flats should have been set in the place of props. There was no evidence to show what the men were doing when the accident occurred. Fiery Vein. Naked lights. 3 killed.
