- Details of Event
- Fall of side at face while about to test the roof by striking it with a mandrill, a portion of the coal at the face and clod above the seam fell on him. It was said that the piece which fell measured 5ft. 6ins. length 5ft. 6 ins. height, and 20ins. in thickness. The place had not been left, in the condition it assumed after the accident, to be inspected, hence it can not be accurately described. In all probability the coal and clod were overhanging, and the face was not supported by sprags. Four feet seam. Naked lights.
