- Details of Event
- This accident occurred at a rope changing station in the Mid Bute district. Deceased and other men were changing ropes at the time, and having attached the rope of their hand crab to the cap on a rope, which required pulling in a few feet so that the caps might answer, they knocked for slack rope, and tried to pull in with the crab. The rope was, however, held too tightly by the engine-man, so they knocked again, an interval of 2.5 to 3 minutes elapsing between the two sets of knocks. When they started winding in for the second time the engine pulled against them, the handles swung round violently, and struck deceased on the head.
