- Details of Event
- Died November 23. Deceased and his brother worked in a wall 10.5 feet wide which had advanced about 10 feet from a narrow bord in the Main Coal seam which is made up of top coal 3 feet 5 inches, separated by a band from 2 feet 8 inches of bottom coal. The place bad been driven in the bottom coal and band leaving the top coal as the roof to be taken down later. While deceased was kyrving in the right nook a triangular shaped slab of coal about 9 inches thick fell without any warning from the bottom of the top coal relieved by a keen parting above a slip on one side and a loose side next the narrow bord. It displaced two or three props set under it in its fall. The deputy had visited the place about 3 hours before the accident. There was a good supply of loose timber of suitable length to set under the top coal if thought necessary.
