Deceased had holed coal about 18 inches under to a "back" or slip sad a piece weighing about a ton rolled off the face over two sprags slid crushed him against a prop, breaking his back. The sprags were 2 feet long and the seam 5 feet 6 inches thick and overhanging at the top. The men in the stall were aware of the presence of the slip. If more care had been taken in getting down the coal and longer sprags used, the accident might have been avoided. He died on 10th December.
