He was killed by being run over by it journey of trams while engaged in cleaning an engine plane. It seem probable that deceased had left his shovel in a manhole, where it was found, and walked forward to pick up any large pieces of coal that might be on the road (as was his custom), and had lost his light and failed to get into the manhole before the journey reached him. The road was of good size and in good repair, and the manholes were in order. There was nothing about it to account for the accident.
