- Details of Event
- Deceased was the attendant at an endless rope haulage set at the surface, the motive power being derived from a pair of coupled engines 30 ins. diameter and 4ft. 6ins. stroke. He was found crushed to death beneath the connecting rod at the slide bar. There was an adequate fence, 4ft. 6in in height, all along the engine from the end of the slide bar to beyond the crank, over or through which deceased must have climbed. No evidence could be obtained to suggest a reason for his presence where he was found. There is no necessity whatever for oiling with the machinery in motion.
