- Details of Event
- The accident happened on a siding at the mouth of No.1 West Level in the return airway slant, and was caused by a runaway tram which appears to have become detached from the rest of the "journey," in consequence of the tram above being off the road, and, in the jolting, the coupling worked loose. The Surveyor had been measuring the air on the level, and was probably on his way to do so at another place when the accident occurred. Williams died in the pit, but Peel died from shock on the 16th December. 2 killed.
