- 14 August 1928: Mining Accident at West Calder - Yesterday morning a young man named Robert Brown, residing at Seafield, Livingston , was severely injured in Breich Shale Pit, belonging to Scottish Oils (Ltd,), by a rake of runaway hutches. One of his legs was fractured and the other severely crushed. He was conveyed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. [Scotsman 15 August 1928]
