- Details of Event
- Deceased, who was leading man, was working along with another stoneman near the face of a gateway in longwall workings in the Yard seam. A shot had been fired to lift the bottom stone and a steel plank had been withdrawn and scene top stone taken down with picks. He was in the act of preparing to replace the plank under the new roof when a stone 5 feet 9 inches by 5 feet 2 inches and 19 inches thick at extremes dropped out relieved by jacks on three sides, and fell upon him. The chargeman had spent two hours in the place about an hour before the accident. The Local Inspectors reported ‘in our opinion it was a pure accident these slips cannot be proven until the stone falls.’
