Died July 27. Deceased was returning from his work at Burradon colliery to Killingworth along the private railway of the Burradon and Coxlodge Coal Co. and when 35.5 chains from the Burradon colliery a loco drawing three loaded wagons overtook him. A boy with deceased jumped on to the second wagon and deceased attempted to get on the third but the train was going faster than he could run and he was pulled down and fell face downwards between the wheels and the last wheel passed over his thighs. There is a good footpath by the side of the line, 10 feet wide, and this is constantly used by workers at their own risk. A notice beard forbids trespassing on the line, but no serious effort is made to stop it.
