Deceased was engaged with an older miner in driving a 5 yards wide split in a seam 15 feet thick. Whilst breaking ironstone a large piece of stone burst from the roof and fell on to him. The place was well propped, and 15 minutes before the accident the deputy found the roof sound. The split was nearly holed to goaf and a well defined back ran diagonally across the place.
