- Details of Event
- Deceased was killed by a fall of roof in a drift in the Great Row seam (inclination 33 degrees), he was partly buried by a slight fall first of all, and a further fall while efforts were being made to release him caused his death. A 10-yard pillar was practically finished, only a small cog of coal about 9ft. by 1ft. remaining ungot at the bottom of the next thirling. The level was well timbered with bars and legs, rind the drift with posts and lids, but within 24 hours of the accident the roof over an area of nearly 8 yards up bank and 5 yards on the level, had settled down-reeling the timber and crushing the coal cog to fine slack.
