- Details of Event
- Two stallmen were attempting to get clod down at the face side for a length of 18 feet, and as they could not pull it they started to hole the coal face in a dirt parting between the coal and the clod. They had been holing some time when the clod fell and pushed out the row of props, burying both men. Widdowson was killed, and the other stallmans back was broken. A row of props should have been set close up to the coal face before the holing was commenced.
