- A shot had been fired in a top hack caunch to make rolleyway height. The chargeman, after examining the result of the shot, went some 200 yards outbye to meet the two men who were to ridd the stone. Accompanying these men was deceased, who had to work further inbye at the face. While removing their clothes, one of the men told deceased not to pass under the canch until it bad been ploated, all of them having been warned by the chargeman that the shot had been fired. He went on, however, to have a look, when a large stone, 7 feet 6 inches long, 3 feet wide, and 2 feet 6 inches thick, fell away at some glassy slips, killing him instantly. The stone had evidently been loosened by the shot.
