- Details of Event
- Deceased was employed at the foot of an engine dip about 1000 yds in length. He commenced work at 6p.m., and at 10pm. was found to be limping. He offered no explanation then, but later, alleged that he had ‘got a clout on the foot’ through a tub running over it. He left the pit at 7am and walked home. He died nine days afterwards, and the medical evidence, at the inquest, was that death was due to septicaemia resulting from a diseased condition of the bone of the leg the post mortem examination showed no external mark of injury; an injury at the date of the accident could not be the cause of the disease, but might have accelerated it; it was, however, possible for the disease to originate and develop between the date of the accident and that of the death. The Coroner’s Jury found that death was due to the accident.
