Deceased had just filled a tub in the Deep Seam with bottom coal, and had moved it out-bye a few yards On returning to the face for his lamp, a slab of roof 12ft. long, 3ft. wide and 8 ins. thick fell from between two slips one of which was visible killing him instantly. He had removed the bottom coal quite close up to a post set upon it. The foundation of this post was crushed, and the post reeled out under the fall. It was arranged that in future the posts should be set on a foundation beneath the bottom coal, which is only 6ins. thick.
