- Details of Event
- Drowned in shaft. A Fallin man, William Weir, Foreman Engineer, 6 Bandeath Cottages was fatally injured in Fallin Colliery on Tuesday (25 January 1938). Weir was working at some piping 15 feet above the sump when a number of the pipes fell on him and knocked him into the water filled sump. No-one witnessed the accident and Weir's plight was only discovered when his absence prompted fears for his safety. He was unconscious when removed from the sump and died in Stirling Royal Infirmary shortly after admission. Weir was married and had two of a family. (Stirling Journal).
