- Details of Event
- Deceased, who had only acted as a driver for three days was coming out-bye sitting on the limbers of his pony which was drawing three loaded tubs full and an empty timber tram. He was found near the crossing plate at the out-bye end of a siding by a driver following him out, lying between the rails and between the pony and first tub and his cap was found on the coal in the first tub He had just passed a balk which was a little lower than usual and where there was only 4 inches clearance between it and the top of the tubs and no doubt his head had been caught by it. The road was in good order and the pony quiet and deceased had been cautioned by the waggonwayman to be careful to keep his head down. The Local Inspectors in their report simply described the place but one of them at the inquest said he thought it was a pure accident.
