He was working on the top of the coke ovens and the place being enveloped in steam from the cooling of the coke he was unable to see and stepped in front of one of the hopper trams which a filler was pushing to one of the ovens. He was crushed internally one kidney cut in two but showed no external bruises He walked home, and did not think his injuries serious but on being taken to Cardiff Infirmary in the afternoon, he was operated on and died the same evening.
