Details of Event
Crushed on a parting in the Old Coal Seam by some trams of an empty journey running wild. They became detached above the parting, where the journey is usually stopped before being run down the steep incline to the parting. It is considered that the pin of the D link rose, which, with some kinds of shackle, frequently occurs. There are, however, different improved patterns which reduce the chance of this occurring, and the one most approved of should be used. This case raised the question at the inquest between the Manager and the Miners’ Agent, of men being allowed to travel on engine slopes while trams are travelling, or of the trams being allowed to be in motion while men are on the road. It is an important question, as if they were not allowed it would in many cases necessitate a separate travelling road.
