- Details of Event
- Webb was employed at the bottom landing in all engine dip in the Eight Feet Banbury Seam. Just before the end of his shift a journey of empties had become derailed about 250 yards from the bottom. Deceased’s mate went up to them and with the assistance of the day fireman who had just come on put part of the journey on and signalled to the engineman to draw up a little. The rope broke as soon as the strain came on it and the tubs raced down and caught deceased about 36 yards below he being then on his way up the dip. He had given no signal before starting up as required by the Special Rule 100 and neither the fireman nor his mate knew of the presence on the dip.
