24 September 1920: Fatal Pit Accident At Carluke - A fatal accident occurred at Castlehill Pit, Carluke, yesterday morning, through a fall from the roof. While James Watson, an underground worker, was engaged on the duty of coupling hutches, he was buried beneath a heavy fall. Death was practically instantaneous.
