- Details of Event
- Deceased, along with two other men was engaged in enlarging a main haulage level, and in process of doing the work two temporary props had been set and two long roof bars removed. While the dirt caused by the removal of the bars was being cleaned up a sudden fall of roof occurred, over an area of 10 feet by 8 feet. Watkiss was pinned to the ground and received injuries from which he died in a few minutes, while another workman was slightly injured. The fall came away from two slips, 10 feet apart, running parallel with the direction of the road, and brought down one of the temporary props.
