- When engaged making a steam joint in an archway about half way down in the No.1 pit, it appears that the banksman of No.2 pit, having received a signal from the hitcher to that effect, turned on the steam from the boilers, the result being to scald these men, and their falling, probably in trying to escape from the steam, to the bottom of the shaft, about 120 yards. 2 killed.
