He was working about 20 feet away from a hand crane which was being used to convey a stone, weighing about 6 cwts, out of the quarry. The crane collapsed, and one of the guys, 45 feet 6 inches long, weighing about a ton, fell upon him and killed him. An unseen flaw in the wrought-iron strop, which connected the guy to the central pillar of the crane, caused the accident.
