- Details of Event
- Deceased was killed by a large fall of coal in a Thick coal opening. Shots Had been fired during the previous shift in the roof coal on both sides of the opening, and a slip running across the front of the opening, was thereby exposed. At the tight side of the place were three threes which it was intended to withdraw to "fall" the coal. Deceased was told to loosen these with a pricker and commenced to liberate the first tree in the Fireman’s presence. A few minutes later, however, the coal fell and deceased was found near the tree at the back of the opening with a pick beside him, which he had apparently been using instead of the pricker. The fall was 9 feet thick and came from between two slips, one at the front and the other at the back of the opening.
