Deceased, who had been employed about the colliery branches for 30 years in attending to the wagons, was at-tempting to get on to the buffers of the first or second wagon of a train of 5 wagons loaded with small coal which a locomotive engine was pushing up a gradient of I in 18 at a speed of about 7 miles per hour he slipped between them and the wheels of the wagon next the locomotive, and the wheels of the locomotive itself passed over his legs. After the wagons were pushed a certain distance the locomotive, which was not coupled to them, came back, and it would have been deceased's duty to lower the wagons into another load controlled by the brake on one of them, and the brake can only be used when standing on a buffer. The general arrangements were not conducive to safety, and the manager agreed to make some alteration.
